Steve, a butcher for 33 years, had perfected a range of sausage recipes using prime pork and veal and adapting traditional European recipes to create a delicious range of bratwurst, knackwursts and kranskis. After a '"research" trip to Germany, Steve decided to develop the foot-long Grilled Bratwurst - common in Germany but a first in Australia. Ben is in love with beer but cannot find a celebrant to marry them. He is still looking. He prefers the Germans but is very proud of the Australian craft and microbrewery movement. Due to popular demand from customers and friends wanting to buy our sausages for BBQs, parties and school fetes we have now opened our online store enabling customers to custom order "Brat Packs" for pick up or delivery in the wider Brisbane area. Our Story

Sebastiano Brini arrived in McLaren Vale from Italy in 1950 with a suitcase, five pounds and a passion for growing grapes. He spoke no English.
Like many European immigrants of this time he worked hard to establish a better life in his new country. He worked as a labourer in local vineyards and by 1953 had saved enough money to purchase a property in Blewitt Springs. At the time, two thirds of the property was used to run dairy cows and the other third had established grapevines (Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro), planted by returned serviceman in the late 1940's as part of a soldier settlement scheme. With the help of his family, the property was progressively planted to all grapevines and the varieties now include Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Merlot, and Chenin Blanc for a total planting of 17 hectares. Planting occurred in the mid to late 1940’s, the 1960’s and late 1990’s. Over the years the vineyard has gained a proud reputation of supplying grapes to some of Australia's finest red wine producers including Penfolds, Rosemount Dárenberg and Maglieri. In 1988 Sebastiano died as a result of a tractor accident and sons Marcello and John continued to manage the vineyard. In the year 2000 John and Marcello established Brini Estate Wines to produce small batches of premium quality wines from the vineyard they grew up on. Visit our Website

Callipari Wines & Food

Find Callipari Food & Wine at the Food & Wine Expo! The Callipari family boarded a ship in Messina Sicily arriving at Port Melbourne 19 May 1951. They came from a small town in Calabria called Natile, which was and still is a subsistence farming community. From “humble beginnings and traditional offerings” their wines and food carry that philosophy.

In 1950, the late Michele Callipari arrived in Australia in the quest to find a better life for his family.

The family worked for various families in the region, eventually saving enough to buy their own property in Irymple in late 1954. Michele and Elena sold the property and bought another at Nichols Point in 1959,  next to a property which their oldest son, Giuseppe, had bought in 1956 and which is where Callipari Wine & Food is now located.

Three generations of Callipari’s now live in Mildura.

Most of the families have acquired their own vineyards and are involved in the Mildura community in hospitality, hairdressing, legal services, administration, teaching, the automotive trade and transport, business development, winemaking, fashion design, health and fitness and the performing arts.

Other descendents of the Callipari family have moved to other parts of Australia to quest a better life for their family as did their ancestors.

Fifty years on, their wines and foods were released to be enjoyed by all for many years to come. SALUTI A TUTTI !

The Callipari Winery was set up by Michael Callipari (3rd generation) and his family in 1999 and is still under construction.

His mother Giuseppa Callipari makes the food products, which are grown on the family farm. These are mainly sold in & around Mildura and at tourism outlets and at her renowned café, PEPA’s Cafe

Although a number of medals have already been collected for their wines Michael Callipari believes the best is yet to come, as the vineyard ages and their facility improves.

Cece Liqueur

Cece Liqueur is an International Award Winning Liqueur made in Australia using 100% local Fruit and Natural ingredients. "In 2006 my Brother and I opened an Italian Wood fired Pizza Restaurant in Bargo called “The Local Italian”.  Within the Kitchen my mum, Franca Cece, is the Head Chef.  Mum’s duties were plentiful including making traditional handmade pasta’s and cakes.  Even though mum was extremely busy she still managed, somehow, to fit in time to make Limoncello.  The recipe was passed on to her and had been in the family for generations.  Our clients loved mum’s cooking and after filling their bellies with her homemade Gnocchi, succulent Goat and homemade Tiramisu  there was only one thing left to top it off, mum’s Limoncello.  Mum handed out Limoncello in shot glasses to all clients at the end of their meals and she always admired their facial expressions after tasting it.  Clients begged mum to sell the Limoncello to them to take home but, since it was against the law, mum refused.  After watching this happen night after night for a year, I couldn’t help but think that there truly was a market for this liquid gold.  I began helping mum make the Limoncello and soon mastered the art. With this, the Gourmet Granny's brand was born and sales began increasing rapidly through a handful of independent butcher shops in the greater Sydney area. Today we have over 800 butcher shops "in the family", turning customers into raving fans of our products.

In the early 80's the formulation of Gourmet Granny's was improved again, and pretty much since then has gone unchanged as the feedback from consumers was very loud and clear - "they love it the way it is".

Mount Alexander Winery

Mount Alexander Winery is operated by the Blamires family on the north eastern slopes of Mount Alexander in Central Victoria. The vineyard is planted in the sandy granite soils of Sutton Grange which are famed for producing high quality Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. The property and vineyard are dissected by Axe Creek. All grape growing and winemaking practices are designed to maximise quality and allow the strong fruit characteristics to be reflected in the wine. The fruit is hand pruned to target yields of less than 2 tonnes per acre. The fruit is hand picked and delivered directly to the winery for processing where fermentation vats are hand plunged and the marc is basket pressed to maximise the intensity and varietal characteristics of the fruit. Quality oak (all French) is used to store the wine for 12 months before the wine is bottled on site using the winery’s own automatic bottling line. Stelvin closures are used for all wines to ensure the wine quality will be maintained until the day it is opened and enjoyed.

OzHarvest is Australia’s leading food rescue organisation, collecting quality excess food from commercial outlets and delivering it directly to more than 1300 charities supporting people in need across the country. Founded in 2004 by Ronni Kahn, after noticing the huge volume of good food going to waste from the hospitality industry, she decided there had to be a better way.  Starting in Sydney with one van – the first of many donations from Goodman+ Foundation – she delivered 4,000 meals in the first month. OzHarvest now operates nationally, rescuing over 180 tonnes of food each week from over 3,500 food donors including supermarkets, hotels, airports, wholesalers, farmers, corporate events, catering companies, shopping centres, delis, cafes, restaurants, film and TV shoots and boardrooms. Education is crucial to our business to help enable positive change for vulnerable people. Check out OzHarvest’s education programs, NEST and NourishOur new curriculum-aligned education program FEAST for primary school students is currently being piloted, with plans for NSW roll-out in 2019 and nationally in 2020. A backpacking holiday through France during the early 90's was the inspiration for the creation of The Smelly Cheese Shop at Adelaide Central Market. Local chefs and cheese lovers soon discovered that this little gem was showcasing products that South Australians had not seen before. The word spread and demand grew for this carefully selected range of specialty cheese. Ongoing visits to cheese makers from all over Australia and the world, allows us to select the best on offer. Twenty years on, we are still discovering exciting new cheeses to deliver to you.

The Smelly Cheese Shop Online was created as a result of interstate visitors to our store at Adelaide Central Market, asking how they could get our cheese after they returned home. So in 2007 we began delivering cheese to your door.

The Warrumbungle Mountains are the soaring, jagged remnants of a 13 million year old volcanic hotspot that protrude quite incongruously from the plains in northern NSW. Upon one of the higher peaks was built an astronomical telescope that even today ranks as one of the world's largest, earning the neighbouring town of Coonabarabran the title 'Astronomy Capital of Australia'. It was initially a combination of these factors that lead us to consider Coonabarabran as an intriguing place to plant a vineyard. Almost ten years on from our establishment in 1998, and that initial hunch now seems inspired. The deep volcanic soils, high altitude, low pollution, generous sunshine, and reliable rainfall have enabled us to make such balanced and deeply complex wines that we now wonder why we are not surrounded by vineyards.
