Find Settlers Ridge at the Food & Wine Expo!
Perth – Booth #5
A small, family owned winery, Settlers Ridge Organic Wines was established in 1994. Twenty years on Settlers Ridge have won numerous awards, competing in mainstream wine shows, This has dispelled the perception that quality may be compromised with organic methods.
Wayne and Kaye Nobbs purchased the 101 acre property in 1994, originally part of a dairy farm in the heart of the Margaret River wine growing region. The property enjoys a picturesque, undulating landscape with a large area of remnant Marri and Jarrah forest. Heavy, gravely loam soils, perfect for viticulture, were planted with red globe table grapes and several wine grape varieties, using traditional organic methods.
The first crop of grapes produced in 1997 were of exceptional quality (Shiraz, Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc and Chenin Blanc). Both the size, colour and flavour of the berries were equal to, if not better than, grapes grown conventionally. In 1998 the Red Globe table grapes were grafted over to Merlot and Sangiovese. The year 2000 marked the first release of Merlot and Sangiovese Novello. Lantana (our rose style sweet red) was introduced in 2002, followed by our first fortified wine, being an organic Tawny Port in 2003.
In the past 7 years Settlers Ridge have won more than 50 medals at wine shows, providing compelling evidence that organic techniques can produce high-quality wines. In fact every Shiraz produced has won either a gold or a silver medal in open competition (not just competing in an organic section).
